Types Of Troubled Youth Facilities

Parenthood is hard enough, but when your teen is doing things that he or she should not be doing,  the job is even harder. Fortunately, there are a number of facilities that are available for troubled teens. Below are some of the different types of troubled youth facilities:

Wilderness Treatment Program

Teens who attend a wilderness treatment program will be spending a lot of time doing outdoor activities, such as hiking or camping. Some of these programs include therapy. Wilderness programs typically last between four and eight weeks. These programs are the ideal choice for teens who suffer from ADD, ADHD, a substance abuse problem or oppositional defiant disorder. Wilderness programs put a lot of emphasis on respect, discipline, responsibility and confidence building.

Boot Camps

Boot camp is a program that lasts between two and six weeks. These programs place emphasis on military-style discipline.  Boot camp does not include academics or therapy. Boot camps are the ideal choice for teens who have serious programs, such as delinquency or violence. Many young people attend boot camp in lieu of juvenile jail.
Residential Treatment Programs

Residential treatment programs last the entire year. These programs include education, therapy and group activities. Residential treatment programs are the ideal choice for teens who suffer from eating disorders, anxiety, depression and suicidal tendencies. These programs have doctors on site at all times.

Specialty Boarding Schools

Specialty boarding school is a long-term option for the troubled teen. It places emphasis on character building and behavior modification. People who attend this program will also get therapy a couple of times out of the week. Teens who have learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, adoption issues and weight problems will benefit from attending a specialty boarding school.  It is important to note that individualized therapy may affect the cost of this program.
